Atiku Abubakar, the People's Democratic Party presidential candidate, said he was ready to forge an alliance with Labour presidential candidate Peter Obi.
He said during a press conference in Abuja.
According to Atiku, “As far as I'm concerned,
Peter is welcome to have a dialogue with the PDP. We are ready to have a
dialogue with him. I don't think we will have a problem if he wants a dialogue
with the PDP, whether it's a pact or not.
Obi, the former PDP stalwart left the party
before the presidential primary and joined the LP, where he became the party’s presidential
candidate.
However,
Atiku blamed Obi for the decision, which he described as
"hasty" and ill-conceived for leaving the PDP.
‘'Well, lest anyone think I have anything
against Labour, I think Peter Obi was in a hurry. Do you know why I say he
was in a hurry? Told by the PDP governors that they would have to choose among
themselves the next president, vice president, and chief of staff, Peter got
scared and left. I was not afraid. I stood up to the governors, fought them,
and won the primary. So if he had been there, nothing could have stopped him
from becoming a running mate,’’ said Atiku.
