Tinubu sets up committees to begin reconciliation and healing process


-  Says he is ready to meet Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso

 

The President-Elect, Bola Tinubu of the AllProgressives Congress (APC), has set up committees to meet his co-contestants who are aggrieved at the outcome of the presidential election results to start what is referred to as the “healing process.”

 

In a statement released by Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu's chief press secretary, Richard Oratunde, said the governor and a committee member had disclosed the matter.

 

It further explained that a Committee of Elders of (APC) would soon reach out to the co-contestants of the President-elect to assuage their loss in the just-concluded presidential election.

 

He further emphasized his pledge to reconcile with any injured persons.

 

“The President-elect has established committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested the presidential election against us to begin the healing process. I am on one of the committees. We will meet with them and call on them to work together.” The governor sated.

 

Currently, the three leading candidates in last Saturday's presidential election, Abubakar Atiku of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigerian People's Party Rabiu Kwakwonso of the (NNPP) has rejected the resulting election and pointed out that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), acting as the arbitrator of the election, failed to comply with the provisions of the Elections Act 2022 regarding the electronic transmission of results.

 

The oppositions have also threatened to head to court to challenge the poll’s outcome.

 

According to INEC Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC won with a margin of over 1.8 million votes ahead of Atiku Abubakar, who got 6,984,520 votes, and Labour Party (LP)’s Peter Obi, who polled 6,101,533 and NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso who secured 1,496,687 votes.

 

Bola Tinubu in his acceptance speech extended olive branches to his co-contestants, saying;

 

“I take this opportunity to appeal to my fellow contestants to let us team up together. It is the only nation we have. It is one country and we must build together.”

 

“Whether you are Batified or Atikulated, Obidients, Kwankwasiyya, or have any other political affiliation, you voted and struggled for a better Nigeria, a more hopeful nation.  I thank you for participating and dedicating to our democracy, Tinubu said.

 

The opposition has also threatened to challenge the election results in court.

According to INEC, APC's Bola Ahmed Tinubu won by more than 1.8 million votes, ahead of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  Atiku Abubakar's 6,984,520 votes, Labour Party's (LP) Peter Obi's 6,101,533 votes and New Nigerian People's Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso's 1,496,687 votes.

 

In his acceptance speech, Bola Tinubu extended an olive branch to his co- contesters by saying:

 

"I take this opportunity to call on my competitors to cooperate. This is our only nation. This is one nation we must build together.

 

"Whether you are Batified or Atikulated, Obidients, Kwankwasiyya or any other political affiliation, you vote and fight for a better Nigeria, a more hopeful country. Thank you for your participation and commitment to our democracy," Tinubu said.
