vows to reclaim his mandate
The Labor Party's (LP) presidential candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, said that he won the last Saturday presidential election.
The LP
candidate in his speech vowed to regain his "mandate" through legal
and peaceful means.
Obi came
third in the election result published by the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC).
Speaking to
reporters in Abuja, the former governor of Anambra state said his party has
enough proof that he won the election.
"We
will examine all legal and peaceful ways to regain our mandate. It's obvious
that we won the presidential election,'' Obi said.
Obi
reaffirmed his commitment to the new Nigeria. He pledged to work with fellow
running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed to make a new Nigeria possible.
“A new Nigeria is possible and we will work
for this new Nigeria. Datti and I remain connected to this new Nigeria.”
Obi said the 2023 presidential election would
go down in history as the most contentious election in Nigeria.
“As you know, this election did not meet the
minimum standards expected of free, credible and fair elections. It will go
down in history as one of the most contentious elections ever held in Nigeria,”
he said.
Obi addressed the reporters, accompanied by
Julius Abure, the LP's national chairman, and Akin Osuntokun, the
director-general of the party's presidential electoral council.
The Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) on Wednesday announced the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of Saturday's
presidential election.
According to data released by INEC, Tinubu
won by 8,794,726 votes, to defeat defeat People's Democratic Party (PDP)
candidate Atiku Abubakar, who finished second with 6,984,520 votes.
Obi came third place with 6,101,533 votes
according to the official INEC result.
