Family members of 22-year-old Kabirat Sobola, a former student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, who was allegedly stabbed to death in her room on February 4, 2023, are currently seeking justice for the deceased.
According to reports, Kabirat was found dead
on her bed with a deep cut on her neck and chest and a knife beside her. Her
phone was also missing.
Mrs Sobola, a family member, accused the
police of not doing enough on the matter, saying, "The police have
neglected these parts without mentioning them in their report." She went
on to say that Kabirat's boyfriend, who is currently in detention concerning
the case, should not be indicted as the family believes there is no reason to
do so.
"When she was declared missing for days,
her boyfriend went to make a complaint at the police station on Friday, March
3," said Mrs Sobola. "
According to the DPO, the boyfriend met him
at the counter, saying he was looking for his girlfriend, the DPO suspected him
because it was not up to 24 hours. So the DPO detained him."
Sobola further stated that the police did not
bother to look for the missing phone or investigate the knife. "From their
findings about the guy, there is nothing that indicts the guy. They didn’t talk
about the phone, knife, or anything," she said.
Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations
Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying that the matter
has been taken over by the command's Homicide Section.
He added that from the investigation
conducted, it was discovered that it was the boyfriend who killed Kabirat.
"It seems they had fought before so, it seems he went to the girl’s house
and killed her," he said.
The family, however, is insisting on justice
for Kabirat. "We want justice for the girl, justice must be done,"
said Mrs Sobola. The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section, and
another proceeding is scheduled for April 27.
