The Anambra State Government, through the office of the Special Adviser on Community Security, has introduced new security measures designed to enhance the safety and security of both citizens and visitors.
These directives are aimed at fortifying the state's
security architecture and ensuring a safer environment for all, according to
Law Mefor, Anambra State Commissioner for Information.
In a bid to strengthen
security, the government has mandated that all hotel guests must present a
valid government-issued ID, such as a National Identity Card, International
Passport, or Voter's Card. Hotel owners are required to photocopy these
documents and submit them to the President General of the community. The
President General will then forward the documents to the local government mayor
and the State government. Failure to comply with this directive could result in
the forfeiture of the hotel facility and possible prosecution.
Landlords and landladies in
Anambra State are now required to obtain a form from their respective President
General for each tenant residing in their houses or shops. Tenants must
complete these forms using valid government-issued identification.
Non-compliance with this directive will lead to the forfeiture of the property
by the landlord or landlady and may lead to prosecution.
President Generals have been
assigned new responsibilities, serving as chairpersons of the security
committee of the Agunaechemba in their communities. They are tasked with
overseeing the daily operations of the Agunaechemba security outfit and
submitting detailed monthly reports to the government. Failure to submit these
reports will result in suspension and potential sanctions.
The government is encouraging
the public to report any suspicious activities or incidents of kidnapping. A
reward of up to #5 million and more will be provided to individuals who offer
valuable information to the authorities.
These new security measures are
part of ongoing efforts to ensure a secure environment across Anambra State.
The government is urging all citizens and stakeholders to support and cooperate
with these initiatives for the safety of all.
