Anambra PDP Moves To Strengthen Party Ahead Of 2025 Polls

 By Emeka Chiaghanam

The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated several standing committees in a strategic move to strengthen its position ahead of the 2025 governorship election. The inauguration ceremony took place in Awka, the state capital, with key party stakeholders in attendance.

State Chairman Barr. Chidi Chidebe emphasized the initiative's role in unifying the party and enhancing its operational effectiveness. "This initiative is part of a broader effort to unify the party and enhance its operational efficacy," he stated. He highlighted the importance of unity, discipline, and grassroots engagement as pivotal to the party's success.

The newly formed committees have been thoughtfully selected based on members' experience, dedication, and loyalty to the party. These include the Strategic Planning and Policy Development Committee, tasked with shaping the party’s policy direction; the Grassroots Mobilization and Outreach Committee, focused on enhancing the PDP’s presence at the grassroots level; the Reconciliation and Unity Committee, dedicated to healing existing rifts within the party; the Fundraising and Resource Mobilization Committee, responsible for ensuring the party's financial sustainability; the Media and Communication Committee, charged with managing public relations; and the State Elders Committee, comprising seasoned leaders who will provide guidance for the party’s strategic objectives.

During the inauguration, a significant resolution was passed in support of Mr. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary and Mr. Peter Mbah as the leader of the South-East caucus. This motion, moved by former interim chairman Mr. Chigozie Igwe, received unanimous backing from party members.

Barr. Chidebe noted that the formation of these standing committees marks a departure from the past reliance on ad hoc committees set up solely for elections. "Today is about laying the foundation for a stronger, more united, and strategic PDP in Anambra," he remarked. "The emphasis is on maintaining a well-structured party that remains deeply connected to grassroots issues while being fully prepared to reclaim leadership in governance."

The party is also committed to reconciling with genuinely aggrieved members to facilitate their reintegration. A former PDP Chairman in Anambra, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu, expressed optimism about the party’s potential to reclaim its status as the leading political force in the state. He encouraged members to strive for unity and greatness, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects for success in the upcoming November 8 governorship election.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent party members, including officers of the State working committee, stakeholders, and committee members. Former State Chairmen Engr. Chigozie Igwe and Hon. Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu were present, along with former members of the House of Representatives, including Hon. Jessie Balonwu and Hon. CC Okeke.

Engr. Chigozie Igwe moved a motion reaffirming the party's support for Rt. Hon. Sunday Ude Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP, demonstrating the party's unity and commitment to its national leadership. Additionally, the Anambra State chapter of the PDP reaffirmed their loyalty to Barr. Peter Mbah as the Leader of the PDP in the South East Zone, further solidifying the party's stance.

In his vote of thanks, Hon. Ebere Onunkwo, State Secretary, assured that the PDP will continue to work towards regaining power in Anambra State, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation among party members. This renewed commitment, combined with the party's recent strategic moves, positions the PDP to make a significant impact in the state's political landscape. As Barr. Chidi Chidebe confidently declared, "The PDP is back, and we are ready to take our rightful place as the leading party in Anambra State."

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Anambra governorship election for November 8, 2025. As the date approaches, the PDP's strategic initiatives and emphasis on unity and grassroots engagement will be critical in determining its success at the polls.
