Awka South Mayor, Okafor, Initiates Waste Management Reforms With New Signboards In Okpuno Okochi

In line with Governor Soludo initiative on clean, green and livable Anambra, yesterday, the new Awka South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Chinedu Okafor reiterated his resolve to ensure total compliance on sanitation within the Awka Capital City in accordance with the state act on waste management and disposal especially within the Okpuno Okochi Axis.

He made this disclosure yesterday during a meeting with the Commander, Dobe Awka Ocha Enforcement Team and his top enforcement officers.

Speaking, Hon. Okafor reaffirmed his resolve to work assiduously to ensure that Awka Capital City always wears a clean look and also to curb the menace of incessant reckless dumping of waste especially on drainage systems in Okpuno Okochi Area.

According to him, the plan in working to keep every community in Awka clean is not only to alleviate the immediate challenge of poor waste disposal system and management but also lay the foundation for a cleaner and greener future for the entire Awka South Council Area.

He assured every necessary effort and resources will be put in place in order to make Awka Capital City and Anambra State a prosperous, healthy and liveable homeland.

"We are going to build a stable litre bin to enable residents dispose their waste properly, he said"

"We are also going to meet with landlords and shop owners to discuss better approach to be engaged to bring a lasting solution to the effect of reckless refuse dumping around that neighborhood, he added."

Hon. Okafor went further to reaffirm commitment to making Awka South the envy of other local government council area and advised residents to be very careful and cautious about how they dispose their refuse waste in their various communities.

He further reiterated his resolve to engage relevant community leaders and stakeholders to continue sensitizing the residents of proper waste disposal practice and tasked the enforcement officers to be committed to their duty

Contributing, the MD CEO, the Commander Dobe Awka Ocha Enforcement Team, Prince Ikechukwu H Ndigwe while commending the new Awka City Mayor for springing into action immediately after his Inauguration to facelift the Awka Capacity Territory and reinstated his commitment to work with the TC Chairman in ensuring a more clean, healthy and livable and prosperous Capital City for all.
