Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, while speaking during an interview on Channels Television this morning, alleged a premeditated conspiracy aimed at obstructing the electoral process.
Soyinka declared, “I am
alleging that there was a conspiracy from the very beginning before the
election to make sure the elections did not take place or that even if the
voting did take place, that everything be reverted to what happened under
Babangida."
Highlighting a sudden annulment
of election results despite international oversight, including monitoring by
embassies, Soyinka emphasized the gravity of the situation, transforming it
from a contest between individuals into a clash between the so-called interim
political party and democratic principles.
In response to post-election
comments by Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party's vice-presidential candidate,
Soyinka criticized the politician, denouncing the remarks as "disgraceful
and menacing." Baba-Ahmed had urged Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice
Kayode Ariwoola, not to swear in Bola Tinubu, the declared winner of the
presidential election, as the duly elected president of the country.
