3 Anambra Monarchs withdraw Ifeanyi Ubah’s Chieftaincy Titles

Traditional rulers of Aguluezechukwu, Neni, and Ojoto—namely Igwe F.E. Ebelendu, Igwe Onwuamaeze Damian, and Igwe Gerald Mbamalu—have taken the unprecedented step of withdrawing the chieftaincy titles previously bestowed upon Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

This decision follows the suspension of the traditional ruler of Neni, Igwe Damian Ezeani, by the Anambra State government. The suspension was a consequence of Igwe Ezeani conferring a chieftaincy title on Senator Ubah, who recently made headlines for his defection to the All Progressives Congress.

In an official statement released by the Press Secretary to the state governor, Christian Aburime, the action by the three traditional rulers is characterized as a direct violation of the State Traditional Rulers’ code. The titles of Ikemba Ojoto, Odenjiinji Neni, and Dike Eji Eje Ogu, previously bestowed upon Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, have now been formally revoked and canceled by the three Igwes.

The statement underscores the importance of traditional rulers adhering strictly to State Traditional laws, cautioning against actions that could potentially breach legal provisions. Senator Ubah, responding to the development, attributed his suspension to political motives, alleging that Governor Soludo is driven by frustration over his rising popularity and apprehension about the upcoming governorship election. Ubah expressed confidence in the unwavering support of the people, dismissing the governor's actions as politically motivated.
