Nigerian singer Rema, fatigued from years of touring, has announced the cancellation of all December performances to prioritize his health.
The Afrobeats luminary shared the decision on Instagram Wednesday, lamenting the impact on his heart and expressing the need for recuperation. "I need time to recuperate," he conveyed to fans, assuring a return in 2024.
Internationally acclaimed for his hit "Calm Down," 23-year-old Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, recently staged a captivating performance at London's 20,000-seat O2 arena, entering on a carousel pony. During the show, he spotlighted the cultural significance of the looted Benin Bronzes, emphasizing the connection to his own heritage.
The canceled December tour included stops in Nigerian cities Abuja, Benin, and Lagos, as well as a scheduled performance at the Hey Neighbour Festival in South Africa on December 9. The status of ticket refunds or carryovers to 2024 remains unclear.
Rema, acknowledging his
Billboard Music Award for best Afrobeats song, expressed gratitude to fans,
deeming the accolade a "celebration of unity and the global domination of
Afrobeats."
