Nigerian rapper, Falz, recently expressed his strong opposition to the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president-elect in an interview with Arise News. Falz, known for his socially-conscious music, spoke out against what he perceived as a lack of adherence to rules and regulations during the election process.
“To say the least, the rules and regulations
that were supposed to guide this election were not applied," said Falz. He
further criticized Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC), for announcing the rules but allegedly failing to
comply with them.
According to Falz, the election process
lacked transparency and was marred by foul play. He stated, "suddenly the
process became non-transparent" and it was evident that there were some
nefarious activities at play. Falz's concerns are rooted in his belief that the
election did not adhere to democratic principles and was flawed in its
execution.
In his latest song titled "Yakubu,"
Falz explicitly criticized the INEC chairman, likening his actions to that of a
fraudster. The song, according to Falz, is a factual account of the events that
unfolded during the past few months leading up to the election. He emphasized
that the song is self-explanatory and serves as a reflection of his
dissatisfaction with the election process and its outcome.
As a prominent figure in Nigeria's music
industry, Falz has often used his platform to raise awareness about social and
political issues. His outspokenness and critique of the election process, as
well as the INEC chairman, reflect his commitment to advocating for
transparency, fairness, and accountability in the country's political affairs.
