In Ibadan, man jumps off bridge as gunmen snatch Lexus Jeep from owner

In a daring carjacking incident in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, a young man jumped off a flyover bridge at around 12:30 pm on Monday while armed men snatched a Lexus Jeep from its owner at gunpoint.

The gunmen, who were dressed in black, hijacked the car after firing several gunshots that forced residents of the area to flee in fear for their lives. It was later discovered that two passengers were in the stolen car at the time of the incident – the car owner and a passenger who had jumped off the bridge to escape from the scene.

In chat with the escaped passenger, a young man in his late 30s, he narrated that they had been trailed to the robbery scene before being finally stopped by the gunmen, who then collected the car keys before taking away the car along with the car owner.

He revealed that he had jumped off the bridge out of fear for his life, saying: “We were trailed and stopped here on the bridge, they fired gunshots, and because of the fear of being shot, I ran for safety by jumping off the bridge. They snatched car keys and fled with the car and the owner.”

The young man also disclosed that the car owner had just recently purchased the vehicle after winning a sports bet. However, while some eyewitnesses claimed that the victim was robbed and whisked away because he was suspected of having a deal with the gunmen before the incident, others alleged that the car owner might have duped the gunmen before being trailed to the scene.

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the car owner and the stolen car are unknown.
