Chelsea have made a major announcement regarding the appointment of Frank Lampard as their interim head coach until the end of the season.
Lampard, who previously managed the club from
July 2019 to January 2021 before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel, has been out
of work since his departure from Everton in January.
Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards, and Chris Jones
will be joining Lampard at the club as part of his backroom staff. The
announcement was made after Chelsea's recent match with Liverpool, which ended
in a 0-0 draw.
The search for Chelsea's next permanent head
coach is still ongoing, following the departure of Graham Potter. The club's
co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, are leading the
search, with the final decision to be made by co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad
Eghbali.
Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton & Hove
Albion is reportedly not in the running to be the next Chelsea manager,
according to The Athletic. Meanwhile, Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, who
was recently sacked by Bayern Munich, have been linked to the vacancy.
Bruno Saltor, who was a member of Potter's
coaching staff at Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea, took charge of the
west London side during their match against Liverpool.
Chelsea, who are currently 11th in the
Premier League, will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next game on
Saturday. They will also be playing against Real Madrid in the quarter-final
first leg of the Champions League next week.
