Armed herdsmen on Wednesday attacked Umogidi village in Benue state has left 46 people dead, according to reports.
The attack took place in the Entekpa-Adoka
district of Otukpo Local Government Area. The same village had been invaded by
armed attackers on Tuesday, during which three people were killed.
Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Bako Eje, whose son
was also killed in the latest attack, said that the village was under siege.
He added that the armed men surrounded the village
again on Wednesday evening, barely 24 hours after the first attack, and opened
gunfire on the inhabitants.
"So far, this afternoon (Thursday), 46
corpses have been recovered while many people are still missing," Eje
said.
His son and other relatives were victims of
the latest attack, which occurred around 5 p.m. on Wednesday while mourners
were burying the three other deceased.
