By Uzo Ugwunze
There was jubilation as over 400 constituents were empowered by the House of Representatives Member for Idemili North and South, Hon. Uche Harris Okonkwo. The empowerment program, which included training for about 150 youths on biogas for domestic utilization and other modern technologies, was facilitated by Hon. Uche Harris Okonkwo and has successfully concluded.
The training sessions, held
simultaneously at Eziowelle and Nnokwa communities in Idemili North and South
LGAs, were conducted in collaboration with the National Biotechnology
Development Agency, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology.
The program aimed to equip constituents with skills in biogas production for
domestic use and other viable technological applications.
At Eziowelle Civic Centre, Mr.
Dike Ugboaja and his team served as resource persons, training about 60
constituents. He assured the participants that the team would be available to
assist them with installations until they become experts.
Speaking during the event, the
Senior Special Assistant to Hon. Uche Okonkwo, Hon. Chibuikem Okoye, commended
the initiative, noting that youths of Idemili North and South praised the
foresight of their representative. He highlighted that the training in this
largely untapped field could enable serious-minded youths to earn up to
₦300,000 daily. Hon. Okonkwo ensured the availability of necessary tools and
resources to provide participants with a solid start.
"In these three days, we
fostered unity and love among the communities in the constituency. Uche Okonkwo
also empowered about 250 constituents with cash, POS machines, sewing machines,
grinding machines, and more at Nnobi. He believes the government should
identify and address the needs of the masses at the grassroots level to build
sustainable relationships and promote development," said Okoye.
The training, according to
Okoye, was intensive and featured world-class facilitators who taught
participants the fundamentals of installing and producing biogas for domestic
use. He remarked, "At least, people can now support themselves and their
families with this knowledge. Waste from cows, goats, chickens, and households
can be converted into electricity or cooking gas for domestic use, reducing the
cost of living."
Labour Party Chairman of
Eziowelle, Engr. Nonso Ozoemena, praised Hon. Uche Harris Okonkwo, saying,
"Ochilima ga Achi-ozo" as he continues to lead in human capital
development. With over 400 beneficiaries from the training at Eziowelle and
Nnokwa, and the empowerment at Nnobi, there is no doubt that Hon. Uche Harris
Okonkwo's one year and six months in office has been exceptional.
In separate remarks, Igwe
Michael Okonkwo Etusi of Eziowelle, represented by Palace Secretary High Chief
Dr. Jerry Anyaegbu, and Eziowelle President General Dr. Julian Obiora,
commended Hon. Uche Harris Okonkwo for this initiative, which offers both
immediate and future benefits for the Eziowelle community. They encouraged the
beneficiaries to take the training seriously and use their knowledge to mentor
others.
The grateful beneficiaries, who
received between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000 each, expressed their appreciation for
Hon. Uche Harris Okonkwo's efforts. One of them, Mrs. Ogochukwu Omaliko from
Ward 2, Abatete, prayed for Hon. Okonkwo's continued philanthropic activities,
mentioning that she had previously benefited from similar programs. Another
beneficiary, Mr. Emmanuel Nwabueze from Eziowelle Ward, thanked the House
Member for his dedication to his constituents and expressed his eagerness to apply
his newly acquired biogas skills at the domestic level to save on fuel and
cooking gas costs.
The highlight of the occasion
was the presentation of certificates to the 60 trainees.
