The Anambra State House of Assembly has expressed satisfaction with the quality of road construction work on Nwokedi and Edmund Streets and urged the contractor to ensure the speedy delivery of the project.
The Anambra House Committee
Chairman on Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Emmanuel Nwafor, made this
commendation in the company of other committee members, including the
representative for Ihiala Two Constituency, Hon. Iloh Golden, and his Anambra
West counterpart, Hon. Patrick Udoba, during an inspection tour of ongoing road
construction projects in Okpoko.
The Nwokedi and Edmund Street
road projects, when completed, are expected to extend to 1, 2, 3, and 4 in
Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. Speaking shortly after
the inspection, Committee Chairman and member representing Orumba South
Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emma Nwafor, stated that the
aim of the visit was to assess the progress of work and ensure strict compliance
by contractors with the project specifications.
He expressed satisfaction with
the quality and standard of materials used, especially in the construction of
the drainage system, which plays an essential role in effectively managing
floodwaters in the area. He affirmed that, upon completion, the road will
effectively address flood-related issues in the area.
Hon. Nwafor further extolled
Governor Soludo for providing a lasting solution and relief to the community
regarding flood-related stress. He encouraged the people to take ownership of
the project by conducting individual inspections to spur the contractors to
deliver swiftly.
For the Project Manager of
Akaeze Constructions Nig. Ltd, Engineer Austin Ezeadi, the 3.5-kilometer road,
currently at the desilting and drainage structure casting stage, will be
completed in less than five months. He noted that the drainage work will
effectively combat flooding in the area.
He highlighted several
challenges affecting the pace of the project's completion, including the
aftermath of heavy rainfall and the uncontrollable discharge of domestic
wastewater from residential buildings into the major drain under construction.
He assured that these challenges are under control and further committed to
delivering the project on time and according to standard.
