Punch Editorial On Intractable And Pervasive Insecurity Throughout Nigeria

By Polycarp Onwubiko

Excerpts:

"It becomes clear that the government’s efforts to combat the epidemic of kidnapping, banditry, violence, and terrorism have fallen woefully short.

"The situation demands a radical overhaul of the security architecture and a renewed commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians. Whole communities in the Lavun LGA of Niger State are deserted, with bandits seizing complete control.

"Unfortunately, President Bola Tinubu appears oblivious to the severity of the situation. Instead of addressing the growing insecurity, Tinubu continues to jet worldwide in search of investors.

"The Tinubu administration’s failure to prioritize security has allowed bandits and kidnappers to consolidate their grip on vast swathes of the country. The worst-hit states included Zamfara with 667 victims, Kaduna with 454, and Niger with 252.

"Unfortunately, President Bola Tinubu appears oblivious to the severity of the situation. Instead of addressing the growing insecurity, Tinubu continues to jet worldwide in search of investors.

"Therefore, creating state police is no longer a matter of debate but necessity. The Federal Government should expedite the devolution of policing powers to the states, allowing for a more localized and effective response to crime. In the United States, policing is devolved such. Nigeria is at a crossroads".

My comment:

Conversation with the deaf. The purported "owners” of Nigeria have stridently kicked against Restructuring the lopsided Federation with decentralized security architecture as integral part. President Tinubu allegedly is beholden to the "Caliphate Colonialists, Fulani Feudal Oligarchy and Northern Political Emirate Establishment" who dictate how Nigeria should be governed.

Please Punch and other newspapers should stop wasting their time writing profusely on the pervasive and intractable insecurity throughout the country because the Northern Moslems know the primary and proximate cause of the insecurity in the country. They know the solution but they allegedly use the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen whom they flung open the northern borders for their infiltration ostensibly for Islamization agenda. Who is fooling whom?

The simple question is: What happened to the billions of public funds budgets from president Buhari administration in the Ministry of Defense? Are the so-called "ungoverned spaces in the North" (but in the South, there is no ungoverned spaces since ALL Security agencies man every nook and cranny). Northern personages like Alhaji Gunmi and his fellow travellers visit the supposed "bandits and criminals" in their hideouts in the "thick forests" (please do human beings live in forests?) and supposedly "plead with them and understand their so-called "grievance" against the government (is it their state governments or federal government?). Again as I said earlier, who is fooling whom?
