Man Arraigned For Stealing Yam Seeds, Farm Implements

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned a 25-year-old man, Joseph Sunday, at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti District for allegedly stealing yam seeds and farm implements valued at N415,000.

Inspector Olubu Apata, the police prosecutor, informed the court on Thursday that the suspect, along with two others currently at large, conspired to steal two bags of yam seeds worth N400,000 and farm implements valued at N13,500. The total value of the stolen items is N413,500, belonging to Mrs. Ojumoola Ademola. Apata also stated that on the same date, at Ilokun Estate in Ado Ekiti, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

“The offences committed are punishable under Sections 422, 302, and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Laws of Nigeria 2021,” Apata said.

Yinka Adelusi, counsel for the defendant, requested bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that his client would not jump bail and would provide credible surety. Chief Magistrate A. O. Owoleso granted bail of N450,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to August 23 for hearing.

In a separate case, the police arraigned a 70-year-old man, Oladele Ade-Amunimola, before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti for alleged malicious damage, assault, and obstruction of duty to a lawful officer. Apata told the court that on July 15, at about 11 a.m. in Aramoko Ekiti, the defendant threatened violence against Adeniyi James and Bolatito Nifemi and maliciously damaged approximately 3,000 cement blocks valued at N450,000, property of Oni Samuel Tosin. The defendant also allegedly assaulted and obstructed Inspector Adefemi Adebayo while he was discharging his lawful duty.

“The offences committed are punishable under Sections 69, 363, and 187(a) and (b) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law 2021,” Apata added.

L. O. Ogundele, counsel for the defendant, also requested bail on liberal terms. Chief Magistrate Owoleso granted bail of N200,000 with one credible surety in like sum and adjourned the case to August 22 for hearing.
