In a tumultuous saga, the marriage between Nigerian singer Paul Okoye of the music duo Psquare and his wife Anita Okoye has unravelled amidst a series of contentious demands and allegations.
Sources close to the couple
have revealed a series of escalating tensions and conflicts. Anita Okoye, it is
claimed, initially sought the breakup of Psquare, the popular music group
consisting of Paul and his twin brother Peter, so Paul could pursue his solo
career under her influence. Her request was met.
Subsequently, Anita requested
to be made a director in Paul's new music venture, RudeBoy Records, a position
Paul agreed to. However, tensions rose when she demanded the firing of Paul's
manager to replace him with her younger brother, a graduate of music from the
University of Lagos with a diploma in Business Management. Paul refused.
Further straining the
relationship, Anita insisted on accompanying Paul to all his events and shows,
a request he also declined. When rumors surfaced of Psquare reuniting, Anita
allegedly instructed Paul to avoid any reconciliation meetings. Paul
disregarded her directive.
In retaliation, Anita
reportedly withheld intimacy for five months, leading Paul to seek solace
elsewhere. He rented a house in Ikoyi for his new girlfriend, ceasing his attempts
to reconcile with Anita.
The conflict extended to family
gatherings, with Anita barring their children from attending the annual Okoye
Christmas party at Paul's brother Jude's house, a decision criticized by Jude's
wife.
In March, Anita expressed a
desire to take their children on a holiday to the United States to visit her
sister. Paul suggested postponing the trip until August, but Anita proceeded
without his consent while Paul was in the UK for a show in April. She took the
children and moved to the US.
In a surprising move, Paul
visited Anita's sister's home in the US in June, only to discover Anita had
relocated to Utah, where she was reportedly staying with an ex-boyfriend,
Peterside, from their hometown in Rivers State. Anita refused Paul’s request to
see their children, prompting him to return to Nigeria.
Despite Anita anticipating that
Paul would initiate divorce proceedings, he did not. After months of waiting,
Anita filed for divorce herself. Throughout their marriage, Paul had reportedly
never been physically abusive and had provided Anita with a monthly upkeep of
three million Naira.
The Okoye family's personal
turmoil has captivated public attention, revealing the strains and complexities
behind the glamorous facade of a high-profile marriage.
