Herdsmen Cannot Be Federal Government's Financial Responsibility

By Polycarp Onwubiko

Gimmickry has been going on in the Senate since few days ago in the name of finding solution to the self-styled "farmers-herders clashes"; NOT mindless slaughtering of indigenous population by the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen imported from the Sahel region of West Africa for ethnic cleansing and territorial expansion in Southern Kaduna, middle belt states down south while the APC-led federal government and past and present Aso Villa landlords look away unperturbed.

The brazen-faced hypocrisy of some self serving Senators of Moslem religious background on the issue of Islamic invaders in the guise of Nomadic cultural means of livelihood that is cattle rearing should be ignored. The middle belt ethnic nationalities and southern ethnic nationalities should join hands and stand on Constitutional Democracy and good Governance and hammer on the searing fact that cattle rearing is purely a private business and must be recognized by both federal government and State governments as such.

There should not be application of the proverbial saying: (neither should such be allowed to play in Nigeria) "different strokes for different folks" on the issue of cattle rearing and ownership in Nigeria. How naive if not outright mischievous could certain Senators who have shown that they have scant value and regard for constitutional democracy and good governance suggest that cattle rearing should be the concern of the federal government to the extent of establishing a Commission with a view to recommend the financing of the private business which cattle rearing is?

Since the country attained independence in 1960, the sources of funding Government had been the natural resources and later the humongous money yielding petroleum resources resources. Funding infrastructure in Nigeria had never been from cattle rearing even when the cattle owners have never been fulfilling civic duties of paying tax. Federal Government should not be intimidated by the goofs of the supposed opinion moulders from the core northern part of the country who always believe that the federal government should be caving to their "sense of entitlement".

Federal Government should not hearken to the suggestion of establishing a bureaucracy for cattle owners. Cattle owners should see themselves as business people and purchase lands and establish ranches as obtained in countries that practice Constitutional Democracy and good governance which is all about RULE OF LAW.

Hear the nauseating suggestions of the self-serving Senators Adams Oshiomohle and Ahmad Lawan calling for a summit to supposedly find solution to the so-called "farmers-herders clashes" instead of calling a spade a spade which is mindless slaughtering of indigenous people by the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen from foreign country in the West Africa.

(1) "May be the Senate should set up an adhoc committee that reflects diversity to conduct public hearing (to find solution), invite people who have solutions to look at the farmers herders clashes holistically"---Senator Adams Oshiomohle.

(2) "Federal Government should invest in the livestock industry as a way of putting an end to the farmers herders crises"---Senator Ahmad Lawan

This is outrageous insult to the rule of law in Nigeria. Where is the law on public safety? Where is the law on terrorist activities which the herdsmen represent? So these two Senators in their sincerest reasoning don't know the solution to the mindless slaughtering of indigenous people by terrorists masquerading as herdsmen from the Sahel region of West Africa? Sorry for this country!

"Fulani Man Is Practising The Tradition Of Trans-Human Pastoralism"---Former Governor Bala Usman of Bauchi State

Is that so? Why are the Fulani herdsmen not 'trans-humaning' with their cows in Britain, US France and other countries!

Why is it that it is only in Nigeria that the devious ECOWAS protocol for the so-called "Free movement" across the West African countries is operating with the borders in the northern part of the country flung open for their unrestricted infiltration?

The establishment of the so-called ECOWAS protocol "free movement" across the West African countries was possible because of the military regime in Nigeria which was a long term agenda to open the northern borders for the infiltration of terrorists masquerading as herdsmen, carrying AK-47 riffles and mindlessly slaughtering indigenous population in southern Kaduna, middle belt states down south while the supposed Nigerian security agents pretend that they are helpless in checkmating their covertly prodded lawlessness by the APC-led federal government from Buhari administration and spilled to president Tinubu administration.

The agenda of the sponsors of the confirmed terrorists masquerading as herdsmen had been for ethnic cleansing and territorial expansion to swell the population of Moslems in Nigeria. It was reported that president Buhari assured the Fulani tribe in West Africa that God has given them Nigeria to be their permanent settlement and abode. Not surprising, the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen having massacred hundreds of thousands of indigenous people settled in the villages while the survived ones are languishing and dying in droves in makeshift refugee resettlements while the occupants of Aso Villa look away unperturbed.

The dilation on Restructuring the lopsided Federation has to do with the rejection of state police because it comes on stream, state governments will make laws banning open grazing and compel cattle owners to purchase lands and establish ranches. But the supposed "Fulani Feudal Oligarchy" don't want Ranches because it will truncate the dream Islamization agenda. Nobody is fooled. The game plan had been on since the military regimes.
