Germany, three-times European champions, secured an emphatic victory 5-1 against Scotland at the Munich Football Arena. The hosts opened the net in 10 minutes and doubled their lead in the 19th minute after a series of precise passes ended with Kai Havertz finding Jamal Musiala, who took a touch in the area and fired into the roof of the net.
Scotland's
woes deepened when Ryan Porteous was sent off for a foul on Ilkay Gundogan in the
penalty area. Havertz stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, making it
3-0. Substitute Niclas Fuellkrug added a fourth goal late in the second half.
Scotland
managed to get on the scoresheet through an own goal by Antonio Rudiger.
However, Emre Can sealed the comprehensive win for Germany with a late strike.
Germany
will next face Hungary in Group A, while Scotland will need to regroup ahead of
their match against Switzerland.
