Archbishop Abegunrin Charges Christians On Love, Peace

The Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan, Most Revd Gabriel Abegunrin has challenged Christians to use the Easter period to respond to God's love by loving their neighbours.

In his 2024 Easter message, Archbishop Abegunrin noted that the Easter season reminds Christians of God's love to his children expressed in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The religious leader underscored the importance of peace noting that it was an invitation for Christians to share in his reconciliation.

"Jesus made peace with and reconciled all creation to God on the cross; now, he offers us a share in his reconciliation, he wants us to be reconciled with our brothers and sisters and the spread the message of Peace", he stated.

Archbishop Abegunrin expressed sadness that in recent times peace was not within the grasp of the people especially when confronted with unpleasant situations around the world.

He observed that it was not the presence of war that indicates the absence of peace, but when people suffer from the abuse of domestic violence, ethnic prejudice, cruelty or whenever communities are physically, psychologically or spiritually harmed peace is polluted.

He noted that the peace of Christ was very essential for the good of mankind.

"It is the foundation of love, it helps us to create pathways for  progress and provides opportunities for unity and cooperation among all people and nations. The idea of peace is and must be centered in human life", the Archbishop said.

He charged Nigerians to use the Easter season to desist from tribalism, nepotism, terrorism, kidnapping, hatred and embrace true brotherhood, love, contentment, equity, fairness and peaceful coexistence.
