Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has issued a directive barring civil servants in the state from wearing traditional attire, such as kaftans and Babanriga, to offices on Monday to Thursday.
The governor announced this order during the presentation of land
development and preparation equipment at the Brains and Hammers Rice City in
Wushishi Local Government Area over the weekend. Going forward, English attire
is deemed acceptable for the workweek.
Governor Bago emphasized the
importance of the new dress code and stated that any civil servant failing to
comply with the directive would face dismissal from service. "From Monday,
we will issue an order preventing civil servants from wearing kaftan and
Babanriga to work between Monday and Thursday. No Babanriga, No Kaftan, we are
here to work. Anybody who wants to wear Babanriga should resign," declared
the governor.
In addition to the dress code
changes, Governor Bago also announced a strategic shift towards serious farming
activities for the state. The governor's pronouncement reflects a broader
initiative to enhance productivity and efficiency in the government workforce
while aligning with the state's agricultural priorities.
