A university professor, Prof. Ejikemeuwa John Onyekachukwu Ndubuisi, has urged our political leaders to adopt philosophical measures to eliminate all forms of bias, including religious, political, ethnic, and tribal affiliations in their leadership roles to propel the country forward.

He noted that the application of religious, political, ethnic, and tribal affiliations by political leaders, without philosophical considerations, has been more detrimental than beneficial to the country.

Prof. Ndubuisi, the Head of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance at Tansian University, Anambra State, emphasized in his inaugural lecture at the 3rd Inaugural Lecture of Tansian University at the Law Faculty Hall of the Umunya Permanent Site of the university that the understanding of philosophy as a critical activity could significantly improve Nigeria.

Titled "Humanism, the Paranormals, and the African in a Changing World: Implications for the Contemporary Nigerian Society," the inaugural lecturer defined the paranormal as a claim to know something above or beyond the normal.

He identified general manifestations of paranormal beliefs as experiences related to ghosts, extraterrestrial life, extrasensory perception (ESP), unidentified flying objects (UFOs), telepathy, faith healing, clairvoyance, and other subjects involving superhuman or supernatural beliefs like levitation, astrology, and spiritualism.

Prof. Ndubuisi highlighted selected samples of paranormal beliefs and practices in Africa, such as beliefs in witchcraft, ritual killing/ritual money, and divination, pointing out their economic, social, political, and health implications.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, and other school authorities for providing him with the opportunity to deliver his inaugural lecture, expressing fulfillment in achieving his lifelong ambition of becoming a professor.

In response, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nwadialor, and his Deputy, Prof. Charles Onochie, praised Prof. Ndubuisi for his erudite lecture and encouraged him to maintain the quality standard throughout his career, urging other aspiring professors to strive to meet his high standards.
