Pandemonium in Abia after gunmen behead policeman


Pandemonium broke out in Aba, Abia State after an officer of the Nigeria Police Force, who was simply identified as Linus, was beheaded by gunmen numbering
over 10, Tuesday. 


An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), he was also known as Agbalagba.

 

The incident took place along East Street, Ndiegoro in the commercial city.

 

Residents fled East Street, Ngwa Road, Akpu Road, Ndoki Street and Etche Road as well as Ulasi Road, all within the Ndiegoro axis, following fears that more locations would be attacked.


Eyewitnesses said Linus and his colleagues were at Tenant Road along East Street at about 5:00 a.m. when the assailants engaged them in gunfire.

 

According to them, on sighting the hoodlums, other police officers on the team fled the scene while Linus was attacked by the bandits who later cut off his head and made away with his gun and service uniform.

 

A resident who pleaded anonymity reportedly told journalists that the gruesome killing on Tuesday had caused tension.


There has been no official confirmation of the incident by Abia State Police Command but police officers were seen discussing the development in hush tones.
