As Nigerians await the commencement of the legal battle between Peter Gregory Obi and the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the outcome of the February 25 presidential election, a chieftain of the Labour Party, Katch Ononuju has come out to explain why he is confident that his candidate will get a favorable judgment in court even after the APC flag bearer may have been sworn into office on May 29.
Speaking during an interview on News Central
TV’s ‘Politics HQ’ on Tuesday night, Ononuju, who is the Special Adviser to the
Labour Party on Public Affairs, argued that if there is anybody that can
overturn INEC’s declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential polls,
it would be Peter Obi, because he is going to court with ample experience of
election litigations tucked firmly under his belt.
To buttress his point, Ononuju revealed that
the Labour Party candidate on two separate occasions, had persons removed from
office through the use of election tribunals even after they had been sworn in
as Executive Governors of Anambra State.
He said; “Peter Obi is a very experienced
man. He is using his experiences from Anambra at the Tribunal, where he got out
of government, two people who were sworn in. Obi had two governors removed from
office on two separate occasions.
He went to the Tribunal and defeated them
after they were sworn in. So, where we are today is not new to him. And I
believe that if anybody can mount a successful challenge in court, it is Mr.
Peter Obi.”
