Fr. Chinenye Oluoma, a Catholic Priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) made one of the candidates an Igbo candidate in the just-concluded Lagos gubernatorial election to ensure that he lost the election.
Oluoma in a video addressed to his church members,,
tribal and religious sentiments are still prevalent in Nigerian politics, and
this was allegedly evident in the Lagos State election. He expressed fear in
saying that even though all the governorship candidates were Yorubas, the APC
began referring to one of the candidates as an Igbo candidate once they saw his
potential of winning, in a bid to dissuade indigenes from voting for him.
In his words, “All Lagos governorship
candidates were Yorubas but APC made 1 Igbo, I’m even afraid to say it. That
shows that the election in Lagos State did not bring anything. It’s judicial
and tribalistic, I’m even afraid to say it."
