Singer Simi calls out INEC after the commission spends N300billion for the 2023 general elections

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simi recently expressed her thoughts  on the just concluded 2023 general elections in a social media post. She criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for reportedly spending a massive N300 billion on the elections, calling them a joke and lacking credibility.

Simi wrote, “300 billion naira budget for this joke of an election. @inecnigeria you might have as well given them back the money to fix some hospitals and schools and just used finger to point at the people you wanted to select.”

Simi's post, shared on March 20, 2023, suggested that the funds allocated to the elections should have been put towards fixing hospitals and schools in Nigeria. She also stated that INEC could have just pointed fingers at the politicians they wanted in power instead of spending such a significant amount of money on the elections.

In essence, Simi believes that the huge budget for the elections was unnecessary and wasteful, especially given the many pressing needs in Nigeria. Her post reflects the growing concern of many Nigerians about the state of their country's governance and the need for change.
