A 22-year-old trader, Kingsley Isaac, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja for stealing two chickens valued at N8,000. The sentence was handed down by the court on Monday, March 20, 2023.
The
presiding judge, Saminu Suleiman, gave the convict the option of a N10,000 fine
and also ordered him to pay N45,000 as compensation to the complainant,
Abdullaziz Salihu, who reported the matter at Zuba Police Station on March 11.
According to
the prosecution counsel, Chinedu Ogada, the convict went to the complainant’s
house on the same date at about 2:00 a.m. and made away with the two chickens
without his consent. Isaac also opened the complainant’s car and stole car
parts worth N35,000, which he sold to an unknown person.
The convict
was later caught and handed over to the police for proper investigation, where
he made a confessional statement. The offence, Ogada said, contravenes the
provisions of section 287 of the Penal Code."
