Real Madrid targets Romelu Lukaku for summer transfer market

There are reports that Real Madrid could sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku during this summer transfer window.

Los Blancos are expected to sign a new striker ahead of the 2023/24 season, with Mariano Diaz starting on a free transfer, which would leave the Spanish and European champions without Karim Benzema's acclaimed successor at the centre.

Alvaro Rodriguez made headlines when he scored against Atletico Madrid in last weekend's Madrid derby, but the 18-year-old has made just three appearances for the first-team.

According to Fichajes, Lukaku has become a target for Carlo Ancelotti's side and the Belgian is keen to leave the Blues this summer. Report says the 29-year-old "dreams of representing Real Madrid" and the capital giants have identified him as a potential signing to bolster their attacking options.

Lukaku played for Inter between 2019 and 2021, scoring 64 goals in 95 games before re-signing for Chelsea for £97.5m. However, the forward only scored 15 goals for the Blues in the 2021/22 season and returned to Inter on loan this summer.

Lukaku has suffered from a series of fitness issues this season that have limited him to just 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

Inter are rumored to want to buy the Belgian back outright, but the Italian club's general manager Giuseppe Marotta recently said he wasn't sure he'd play at the San Siro again next season.

"Will Lukaku stay next year too? It's too early to decide, he will return to Chelsea and we'll see what happens," Marotta told Sky Italia. "Lukaku definitely wants to stay at Inter, we know Romelu's intentions so we'll see if we can negotiate his return here.

Chelsea's plans for Lukaku this summer are unclear but they would be in a strong position to negotiate a hefty transfer fee given the forward's contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2026.

The Belgian has scored twice in two Champions League games this season, including the winner of the first leg of 16 against Porto.

Lukaku has scored just two goals in Serie A this season despite appearing in his side's last six games in Italy's top flight, which is his best run of the 2022/23 season.

Chelsea could look to sell the striker for a hefty fee this summer to raise the funds needed to move for Napoli's Victor Osimhen.
