Find an effective way to reward yourself

How to motivate yourself, celebrate your successes. Many people are very bad at their losses. Sometimes a less desirable trait, but a powerful external motivator. In fact, people would rather avoid a loss than gain exactly the same thing.

You should give yourself a pat on the back for every accomplishment. The first step is the hardest, and even if it doesn't always go smoothly, you're off to a good start. Think about how good it feels that you have finally taken the first step. You have the motivation to take the next step too – each new step is just that little bit easier than the last.

Researchers have found that people are willing to work harder for the probability of an uncertain (higher) reward than for a certain (lower) reward. Introduce a game element into a task by keeping two envelopes-one with a bigger reward than the other-and randomly picking one when the task is completed.

Keep it up

Some people work towards a goal, bursting with motivation at first, but they collapse in the middle of the process. People often start a new task in good spirits, but then..? This is apparent, for example, from an experiment with test subjects who had to cut a series of paper shapes. In the middle of the project, the shapes were invariably much less neat than at the beginning and at the end of the project.

Motivate yourself in difficult times.

Supposing you want to shed some weight, with no apparent result at the initial stage, you have to carry on, the pains notwithstanding. If you don't change anything, you may get fat and ugly. How to motivate yourself, it is precisely that pain, that painful scenario that offers a great deal of motivation. Someone who has smoked all their life suddenly stops smoking completely overnight today. How is this possible? He was told by the doctor today that if he doesn't stop smoking now, he will die in a few weeks.

Change your habits.

Motivation becomes easier when something is already your habit. If you jump out of bed every morning – as a habit – to do some push-ups, it becomes part of you. Good habits, when imbibed, remain beneficial.

Be less critical of yourself.

Self-criticism can destroy your productivity rate. It's tempting to be very self-critical, but that's not always the best thing. You also need to learn to be kind to yourself, to be less harsh on yourself, and to accept disappointment. You are your own greatest friend, an ally. If you don't believe in yourself, you will never be able to change anything. If you need some rest, give yourself some rest.

Explore new methods.

Think differently about a challenge. Encourage yourself to look at your goals in a different way. We call this induction. Do things differently than you've done them before: take a different route to work.

If you keep doing everything the same way, you will get the same results. Try something new and do something you've never done before.

Determinant

How you motivate yourself determines your productivity. If you want to find the motivation to keep you going, give yourself a huge motivational boost with the above simple tips.
