The Anambra State Government has clarified that the installation of solar-powered street lights across Awka metropolis was not approved at the 35th State Executive Council meeting held in Awka.
According to a statement, the
council deliberated extensively on the memo proposing the project but noted
concerns over the high unit cost. It was decided that the proposal should be
reviewed downward to ensure cost efficiency. Consequently, the memo was stepped
down and will be re-presented at the next State Executive Council meeting, with
detailed specifications to be provided.
The government has expressed
regret over an earlier announcement that incorrectly reported the project as
having been approved and awarded. Members of the public are assured that they
will be informed once a final decision is made on the matter.
