A prominent Anambra All Progressives Congress stalwart, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has donated the sum of ₦150 million to the Catholic Diocese of Awka. Sir Paul made the donation at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Awka, during the 40th Priestly Anniversary celebration of the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the donation, Sir Chukwuma, who is also aspiring to contest the 2025 Anambra Governorship election, stated that the donation was part of his contributions to society and a way of expressing gratitude to God for His numerous blessings upon his family. He emphasized that the gesture had no political undertone and urged other prominent Anambarians to contribute to society and support the church's growth.

Sir Paul congratulated Bishop Ezeokafor on his 40th priestly anniversary, commending his dedication and impactful leadership, particularly his remarkable role in championing true Christianity through fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among different denominations in the state. He prayed that God would bless the bishop and grant him a long life with good health to continue leading the church through practical examples of Christ.

In his response, Bishop Ezeokafor expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Diocese of Awka for their love and support. He thanked top government functionaries and other dignitaries for celebrating with him and reiterated his unwavering commitment to building on Christ’s example. The bishop also promised to continue establishing positive, life-transforming initiatives that promote unity and progress within the church and society at large.

ANN gathered that the ₦150 million donation was designated for constructing a proposed retreat center for the diocese at Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area of the state. The planned retreat center, which is expected to serve as a landmark project commemorating Bishop Ezeokafor’s 40th priestly anniversary, will include a chapel, grotto, retreat quadrangle, rectory, ultra-modern kitchen, accommodation facilities, and an auditorium.

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, also contributed ₦5 million towards the project.
