A prominent Anambra All Progressives Congress stalwart, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has donated the sum of ₦150 million to the Catholic Diocese of Awka. Sir Paul made the donation at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Awka, during the 40th Priestly Anniversary celebration of the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor.
Speaking to newsmen shortly
after the donation, Sir Chukwuma, who is also aspiring to contest the 2025
Anambra Governorship election, stated that the donation was part of his
contributions to society and a way of expressing gratitude to God for His
numerous blessings upon his family. He emphasized that the gesture had no
political undertone and urged other prominent Anambarians to contribute to
society and support the church's growth.
Sir Paul congratulated Bishop
Ezeokafor on his 40th priestly anniversary, commending his dedication and
impactful leadership, particularly his remarkable role in championing true
Christianity through fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among different
denominations in the state. He prayed that God would bless the bishop and grant
him a long life with good health to continue leading the church through
practical examples of Christ.
In his response, Bishop
Ezeokafor expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Diocese of Awka for their
love and support. He thanked top government functionaries and other dignitaries
for celebrating with him and reiterated his unwavering commitment to building
on Christ’s example. The bishop also promised to continue establishing
positive, life-transforming initiatives that promote unity and progress within
the church and society at large.
ANN gathered that the ₦150
million donation was designated for constructing a proposed retreat center for
the diocese at Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area of the
state. The planned retreat center, which is expected to serve as a landmark
project commemorating Bishop Ezeokafor’s 40th priestly anniversary, will
include a chapel, grotto, retreat quadrangle, rectory, ultra-modern kitchen,
accommodation facilities, and an auditorium.
The Senator representing
Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, also contributed ₦5
million towards the project.
