The Anambra State Government
has established a thirteen-member committee to investigate the ongoing crisis
in Ogwuaniocha, a community in Ogbaru Local Government Area, which resulted in
the loss of lives and property destruction.
The Chairman of the Committee,
Justice C.K. Anigbogu (Rtd), stated that the State Government aims to uncover
the root causes of the conflict, assess its consequences, and propose solutions
to restore peace in Ogwuaniocha, ultimately laying the foundation for lasting
peace in Anambra State.
"We want to present the
situation as it is, without any embellishment. So far, the community members
have been very cooperative, with no instances of antagonism throughout the
proceedings," Justice Anigbogu remarked. "They have submitted their memoranda,
asked themselves critical questions, and provided honest answers. We commend
them for this approach because it is the only way to achieve peace. We urge
them as a community to maintain peace and avoid any provocative actions that
might inflame tensions," he added.
Justice Anigbogu noted that the community members have conducted themselves well during their presentations, speaking openly about the issues. He encouraged this transparency and urged others who have not yet appeared before the panel to come forward and share their perspectives. This will help the committee assess the situation comprehensively and compile all information to make recommendations to the State Government.
He appealed especially to those
who lost loved ones or property to exercise patience, emphasizing the
government's intention to address the issue holistically. Justice Anigbogu
advised the community to avoid provocative language and actions that could
cause harm. He further urged the community members and the youth to put aside
their grievances and view each other as brothers, sharing the collective
responsibility of safeguarding the community and its rich natural resources for
the benefit of both the local area and the state as a whole.
Monsignor Theophilus Odukwe and
the traditional ruler of Osomala, Igwe Victor Awogu, in their separate
speeches, encouraged the Ogwuaniocha community to unite and embrace peace to
achieve the development they desire.
