Igwe Oranu Calls On Traditional Rulers To Uphold Neutrality And Avoid Partisan Politics

The traditional ruler of Omor community in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness, Igwe Chris Oranu MON, has advised his fellow traditional rulers to refrain from engaging in partisan politics in the state.

Igwe Oranu made the appeal while speaking to journalists over the weekend at his palace. He emphasized that the traditional stool is a sacred institution meant to serve the interests of the people, not political agendas.

Reaffirming his commitment to neutrality as a traditional ruler, Igwe Oranu stressed that a king should remain impartial in political matters, supporting the government of the day without aligning with any political party.

"As a traditional custodian of my community, I must not be partisan. I should remain neutral. Whatever the state government is doing, I should support, but I am not meant to take sides in politics," he stated.

Igwe Oranu emphasized that all citizens of his community, including political leaders, are his subjects. "As a king, everyone residing in my community is my child and should be treated with equal love and respect, including political gladiators. To that extent, I am Pro-Governor Soludo."

He expressed unwavering support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration, adding that his loyalty lies in ensuring the well-being of his people through cooperation with the government.

The monarch explained that his role is to foster unity and support policies that promote the development of Anambra State.

Commenting on the upcoming local government elections, Igwe Oranu highlighted the importance of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) in ensuring credible and transparent elections. He noted that ANSIEC is legally empowered to oversee the electoral process, having been established under an enacted law.

Expressing confidence in the leadership of ANSIEC, chaired by Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, Igwe Oranu praised the framework that guarantees the commission's independence and operational integrity.

"ANSIEC is chaired by an erudite scholar, Genevieve Osakwe, and I am confident she has what it takes to deliver," Igwe Oranu stated.

According to him, "The credibility of local elections depends on the quality of leadership within ANSIEC. Magistrate Osakwe's character and professional integrity make her well-suited to ensure free and fair elections."

Igwe Oranu called on all stakeholders to support the leadership of ANSIEC as they prepare for the local government elections. He noted that with capable hands at the helm, the commission is well-positioned to fulfill its mandate and deliver an electoral process that reflects the will of the people.
