In an event filled with glitz and glamour, friends, colleagues, and other acquaintances of the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Chief Chido Obidiegwu, gathered on Saturday to celebrate him.
The event, held at Lavilla Resort Centre in Ngozika Estate to celebrate Chief Obidiegwu's 60th birthday and the unveiling of his book Beyond Sycophancy, radiated with elegance, marking a significant milestone in the life of a man renowned for his contributions to media, event hosting, and public service.
The celebration brought together dignitaries from various walks of life to honour Chief Obidiegwu, who has become a household name for his unmatched elegance and charisma as a master of ceremonies.
Chief Obidiegwu, famed for his
resonant baritone voice and distinctive grey hair, has carved out a unique
position as a master of ceremonies over the years. His signature blend of
elegance, poise, and professionalism has made him a highly sought-after figure
in the world of events. The event not only honoured his six decades of
life but also highlighted his career achievements, which span media, government
service, and beyond.
In his speech, the celebrant
expressed profound gratitude to God for the gift of life and reflected on his
path to success. Chief Obidiegwu captivated the audience with stories of his
early struggles and the perseverance that eventually led to his role in government.
He also paid tribute to key individuals who played a pivotal part in his
journey, particularly those in Anambra State who helped him secure high-profile
event contracts and facilitated his appointment in government. Their support,
he noted, prompted his relocation from Lagos to Anambra, marking a turning
point in his life.
The event was chaired by
Professor Kate Omenugha, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Odumegwu Ojukwu University,
who described Obidiegwu as more than an extraordinary master of ceremonies,
emphasising his relentless pursuit of excellence in any venture he undertakes,
whether hosting events or serving in government.
The book Beyond Sycophancy was reviewed by Professor Ken Nworgu, a law professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe
University, Awka. During his review, Nworgu commended Obidiegwu for his
thought-provoking reflection on life and his nuanced understanding of power and
service, themes explored throughout the autobiography.
Among the dignitaries who graced the event were Senator representing Anambra Central, Sir Victor Umeh and his wife, Prisca; Hon. Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, representing Governor Soludo; Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly; Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka; Dr. Val Obienyem, media adviser to Mr. Peter Obi; and Sir Chuka Nnabuife, Managing Director of the Civic and Social Reformation Office, among others.
The event’s high point came
with the grand unveiling of the book, a moment filled with excitement and
anticipation.
