A 30-year-old woman named Hauwa Yusuf was arrested by the Special Tactical Squad for hiding an AK-47 rifle and four magazines inside a sack of garri. Yusuf was taken into custody during a stop-and-search operation on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi
disclosed the arrest while parading suspects at the STS headquarters in Abuja
on Friday. According to Adejobi, Yusuf admitted that a notorious bandit in
Katsina State, Aminu Basullube, instructed her to retrieve the arms from Danum
Madam Camp in the state.
On August 14, 2024, Yusuf, from
Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area in Katsina State, was intercepted while
traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Katsina State in a Sienna bus along
the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. During the search, officers found the AK-47 and
four magazines concealed in a white sack of garri.
Yusuf claimed she was unaware
that the sack contained a weapon, stating she was asked to deliver millet but
was instead given garri. She admitted to receiving ₦130,000 for the job, with
₦15,000 allocated for her transport fare.
In another development, Adejobi
detailed the arrest of Musa Saidu, who was under investigation for cattle
rustling and banditry. Saidu, who had been spending lavishly after returning to
his community, confessed to operating under a gang leader named Haruna in
Kaduna State and using AK-47 rifles in his crimes.
Saidu explained that he became
a cattle rustler after his cattle were stolen, and he admitted to selling
rustled cows for ₦4.7 million, which he used to purchase motorcycles and more
cattle. He was arrested upon returning to his village to enjoy the proceeds of
his crimes.
