Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in a recent live interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson on X, shared a deeply personal story about his child undergoing puberty blockers. Musk revealed he felt "tricked" into consenting to the treatment, sparking a broader discussion on the implications of recent legislative changes in California.
During their conversation,
Peterson highlighted Musk's decision to move SpaceX’s headquarters from
California to Texas, citing
new legislation that allows
schools to keep a child’s sexual orientation or gender identity confidential
from their parents. This legislation, Assembly Bill 1955, was signed into law
by California Governor Gavin Newsom on July 15, 2024.
Peterson asked Musk about his
motivations for speaking out against this bill, prompting Musk to share his
personal experience with his child, Xavier, who now identifies as transgender
and goes by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson. Musk recounted, "I was
essentially tricked into signing documents for Xavier, before I fully
understood the situation, especially during the confusion of COVID. I was told
Xavier might commit suicide."
Musk criticized the policy and
those promoting it, describing it as "incredibly evil." He expressed
concern that children are being manipulated during identity crises and that
puberty blockers are being misrepresented. “It wasn’t explained to me that
puberty blockers are actually sterilization drugs. I lost my son, Xavier, to
what I call the 'woke mind virus.'”
Peterson supported Musk’s
stance, asserting that the increased suicide risk claims related to gender
dysphoria are unfounded and rooted in underlying depression and anxiety.
"Every reliable clinician knows that," Peterson stated, "but
many are too cowardly to speak out."
Musk vowed to combat the
influence of what he termed the "woke mind virus," and highlighted
progress in his efforts. He underscored the irreversible effects of puberty
blockers, referencing a Mayo Clinic study indicating long-term fertility issues
in boys, contrary to previous claims of reversibility.
Musk’s child, Vivian, publicly
announced her transgender identity in June 2022 at age 18, also seeking a legal
name change to distance herself from her biological father.
Following the new California
law, Musk announced SpaceX’s headquarters relocation to Texas, citing ongoing
legislative measures in California that he believes undermine family and
business interests. "This is the final straw," Musk wrote on X.
"SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase,
Texas."
This revelation adds another
layer to the ongoing debate about parental rights, medical ethics, and the role
of state legislation in private family matters.
