Neighbour Kills Mother Of Eight-Month Old Twins Over Solar Light Debt

Mrs. Jolaosho, a nursing mother residing in the village of Alako Nla along Kobape Road in Abeokuta, Ogun State, met a tragic end in a shocking shooting incident that has left the entire community in mourning.

The devastating altercation, sparked by an unresolved dispute over unpaid dues for solar lights purchased the previous year, resulted in Mrs. Jolaosho losing her life amidst escalating tensions with her neighbour, Saheed Olawale, also known as Komaye.

As grief grips the community, her husband, Dauda Jolaosho, as a 44-year-old fish farmer and respected figure in the area, bravely recounts the harrowing events that shattered the peace of their once-peaceful neighbourhood.

According to Jolaosho's harrowing narrative, the tragedy unfolded on the morning of Wednesday, April 24, 2024, when tensions between neighbours escalated into a violent confrontation. Allegedly, the dispute stemmed from financial disagreements over solar light payments, with Jolaosho diligently fulfilling his obligations while Olawale reportedly defaulted on his payments, igniting simmering tensions between the two households.

The situation took a devastating turn when Olawale made an unexpected visit to the Jolaosho residence, sparking a verbal altercation that quickly spiralled out of control. Amidst the chaos, Jolaosho sustained a gunshot wound to his arm, while his wife tragically bore the brunt of the violence and lost her life on the scene. The heart-wrenching incident sent shockwaves through the close-knit community, leaving neighbours grappling with grief and disbelief.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Jolaosho wasted no time in alerting authorities, promptly reporting the incident to the Kemta police station in Abeokuta. Prompted by his distressing account, the Ogun State police command at Eleweran, Abeokuta, launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As the community struggles to come to terms with the profound loss of Mrs. Jolaosho, her husband remains resolute in his quest for justice for his wife and the welfare of their five children left behind.

Confirming the distressing incident, CSP Wale Famobuwa, the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta, provided insights into the sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting. However, the alleged perpetrator, Olawale, remains at large, evading capture and leaving justice hanging in the balance. Yet, amidst the grief and anguish, there remains a glimmer of hope as law enforcement authorities vow to ensure that Olawale faces the full consequences of his actions, offering a semblance of closure to the bereaved family and the shattered community.
