Driver's License, FRSC And Centralization Of Virtually Everything In Nigeria

 By Polycarp Onwubiko

DAILY SUN Sunday June 16, 2024 came out with a stunning headline:

"Anxiety, frustration as FRSC fails to issue Nigerians driver’s license" with the picture of

Federal Road Service Commission (FRSC) checking driver’s license; a country that goes with hypocrisy and insincerity in all the sectors of governance.

When there was sanity in Nigeria, Regional Governments and later State Governments were responsible for the issuance of vehicles driver’s license with vehicle number plates. But when the agents of ultra conservative governance woke up from deep slumber, they centralized virtually every sector of governance ostensibly for ethnic cum religious calculations.

The Cabal leveraged on the fraudulently crafted military Decreed 1999 constitution supposedly under Amendments to pander to the preferences, venality and inanities of the "Fulani Feudal Oligarchy and Northern Political Emirate the" who insisted that Nigeria would continue to be piloted in line with their ethnoreligious irredentism and chauvinism where the South likes it or not.

Otherwise what prevented the past and present federal government from implementing the Steve Orosanye Report on merger of MDAs and outright scrapping of overlapping and clearly unnecessary agencies, parastatals and ministries which state governments are in the position to operate effectively and efficiently?

Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC since its establishment had been criticized by people who agitated fruitlessly to return the issuance of vehicles driver’s license and plate numbers to the state governments which operate Board of Internal Revenue. The bungling and financial malfeasance that had accompanied the centralization of motor driver's license with vehicle number plates has been unimaginable and scandalous yet the past presidents plugged their ears since they were in 'covenant' to maintain the Centralized contraption which has led to the collapse of virtually all the sectors of governance.

In management courses, research had shown that "over centralization creates inefficiency and bungling". Now due to inefficiency and bungling coupled with alleged inadequate financing of MDAs, the management of FRSC confessed that the agency is severely hand-capped to repair the damaged, faulty and ageing machines but is poorly provided for in the annual budgetary provisions. Then if it so, why cannot the agency be scrapped and issuance of vehicles drivers license with vehicle number plates returned to the state governments?

According to Sunday Sun news report a frustrated person who could not get his vehicle licence renewed said: "....describing the experience as frustrating and time-consuming, Oseni said that it is really disturbing to find out that the Federal Road Safety Commission performance as far as the issuance of driver’s license is concerned has remained as ineffective as it was decades ago.

“It is very shocking to find out that an agency like the FRSC will remain at this level of inefficiency in an era where technology has not only simplified the processes of doing things but also has made things much faster,” he wondered.

My comment: Although I have said something about the hopeless country we are in which insist on operating the fundamentally fraudulent and fundamentally flawed Federal-Unitary contraption referred to as the 1999 constitution deceptively under the supposed "amendments" ostensibly to suit the Caliphate Colonialists that have held this country comatose and on the Road to Golgotha, the sane and sanitized approach is to scrap FRSC and return vehicle licence and number plates to the Board of Internal Revenue of the state governments.
