Police Arrest Suspected Cultists In Ogun During Initiation, Rescue Victim

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected to be members of the Eiye cult confraternity and rescued a victim during an initiation event at Malaka Quarters in Owode Egba, located within the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Olayiwola Akinsanya, Keji Sodipo, and Oluwaseyi Olabamiji, were taken into custody following a report received by the police, prompting swift action by officers to detain them.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to protocol, disclosed that Joshua Obiladem, slated for initiation that night, was successfully rescued from the scene. Upon the arrest of the suspects, authorities seized a knife and assorted charms from their possession.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, stated that an investigation into the matter had been initiated, with assurances that the remaining members of the cult group would be apprehended.

“On May 26, 2024, at about 17:00 hours, information received from the public indicated that Malaka Quarters of Owode Egba Township was the site for the initiation of new members into the Eiye cult. A team of detectives led by the Owode Egba Divisional Police Officer promptly responded, resulting in the rescue of victim Joshua Obiladem and the subsequent arrest of suspects Olayiwola Akinsanya, aged 34; Keji Sodipo, aged 25; and Oluwaseyi Olabamiji, aged 20. Recovered from the scene were a knife and charms. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, with efforts underway to apprehend other individuals involved," Odutola remarked.
