Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said Tuesday that his team may need to secure victories in all of their remaining nine Premier League matches to have a shot at clinching the title, as he gears up for what he described as the "most beautiful part of the season."
The Gunners, currently sitting
in second place, trail leaders Liverpool by two points as they head into a
packed April schedule following a hard-fought goalless draw against title
contenders Manchester City on Sunday.
Ahead of Wednesday's home
fixture against relegation-threatened Luton, Arteta urged his squad to embrace
the challenge.
"It's going to have to be
really close to that," Arteta told reporters during a pre-match press
conference when asked if Arsenal needed a 100 percent record to finish at the
top of the table. "When you see the level and the consistency of the other
teams and historically what is needed to win in this league, it's not going to
be very far from that."
Arteta emphasized the
significance of the opportunity at hand, stating, "This is where we want
to be and now we want to take this opportunity and make it happen."
Reflecting on the team's
performance and mindset, Arteta expressed his optimism, noting, "I see the
team really flowing and they are really excited about playing each game and
that has to drive this energy until the end."
The upcoming clash against Luton
marks the beginning of a series of eight matches scheduled for April, including
two fixtures against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
While Arsenal is heavily
favored to win against Luton, Arteta recalled the challenges they faced in
their previous encounter in December, where they secured a dramatic 4-3 victory
with an injury-time winner at Kenilworth Road.
"Especially how tough it
was to win there, how difficult they have made it for every team…They deserve
more credit than any other team in this league, how they've done it, what they
transmit as a team and what they generated and it's going to be a really tough
match," Arteta remarked.
