Everyone has an own understanding of what it means to practice self-love, but Dorothy may have the most extreme—yet most profound—idea. The 77-year-old woman recently decided that it was time to wed the love of her life.
Unfortunately, she ended up
marrying herself. “Because I’ve always wanted to have this. She said to WLWT,
“I wanted to get married and have a happy life, but things didn’t work out that
way. Now I have a second chance to do something that’ll make me happy.
She had a courthouse wedding in
1965, but the marriage ended in divorce nine years later. Although she had
always thought about getting married, she didn’t actually do it until neighbors
in the retirement community where she resides witnessed a talk show guest get
married.
She agreed when they explained
the concept to her. She initially believed that it would make her other
residents smile, but after some contemplation, she realized that the idea was
more about her enjoyment than it was about others. You know what, I’ve done
everything else, I said. Exactly why not? According to Dorothy, “I’m getting
married to myself.”
Dorothy was able to arrange the
ideal solo wedding with the aid of Rob, the retirement home’s property manager,
and one of her three children. Regarding her feelings on her special day, she
remarked, “I was anxious, but then I was really happy.”
No information was omitted. She
was decked up in a white bridal gown, complete with veil and matching bouquet
of flowers. She served cake, cookies, and finger sandwiches to her visitors.
