Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Adebayo Ojeyinka, an Osun indigene, among the 18 newly appointed permanent secretaries spanning various ministries in the state.
The announcement was made in an
official statement released on Friday by the governor's spokesperson, Christian
Aburime, who emphasized that the appointments were merit-based.
The spokesperson disclosed that
Joachin Achor from Abia State was also among the newly appointed permanent
secretaries. Aburime elucidated that a meticulous and transparent process,
incorporating a computerized test, a thorough search procedure, and one-on-one
interviews with the governor, was employed in the selection process.
According to the statement,
this personalized interaction provided a profound insight into the candidates'
aspirations, vision, and alignment with the government's objectives, ensuring a
comprehensive evaluation.
The statement noted the
historic shift from the conventional practice where the governor had sole
discretion in appointing permanent secretaries. Instead, a deliberate move
toward a transparent search process was initiated, aimed at upholding
principles of fairness, equal opportunity, and identifying the most qualified
candidates.
The statement underscored the
groundbreaking nature of Governor Soludo's approach, highlighting the
appointment of younger, highly productive civil servants solely based on their
exceptional abilities. This shift reflects Soludo's commitment to breaking down
barriers and promoting inclusivity in Anambra State.
Particularly noteworthy is the
appointment of Adebayo Ojeyinka from Osun State, challenging the traditional
practice of reserving top civil service positions exclusively for indigenes.
The statement stressed that this move sends a robust message that Anambra is
open to individuals from all states, emphasizing inclusivity and equal
opportunities.
The state government further
specified that the remaining 16 appointees are all indigenes of Anambra State.
