Oko Rector Assures Matriculants Of Enabling Academic Environment Void Of Exploitation, Molestation

.Tasks students to shun indecent dressing, vices

The Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Uche Onyegbu has tasked matriculating students to shun indecent dressing and behaviours, cultism and other forms social vices and to report any case of exploitation and molestation.

Speaking during the polytechnic's 40th Matriculation ceremony at Oko, Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, Dr. Onyegbu after congratulating the new intakes for choosing the institution known for quality education and rich academic heritage said that the school management expects good character and morals from them. 

       

"I will not fail to give you few tips that you will need for a successful academic career in this institution. First and foremost is to focus on your studies. The main reason you are here is to acquire education, therefore make it your utmost priority".

"Avoid frivolities. You must also shun all forms of vices namely cultism, examination malpractice, extortion, hooliganism etc. We have zero tolerance for these profane acts and indulging in them attract severe penalties including expulsion.

"May I passionately appeal to you to resist extortion by lecturers or even students under any guise? Report any such case to the Management. The Management has come out with a dedicated phone line that will be for cases of extortion. This is in demonstration of our resolve to stamp out this dangerous practice.

"We are sounding a note of warning to all staff that this administration does not condone exploitation under any guise. Do not allow yourself to be used to set example".

"My dear students, be rest assured that the Management is strongly committed in ensuring that you have a successful and fruitful stay here in Federal Polytechnic Oko. Some of the efforts we have made in this direction is ensuring that all the programmes we run in this polytechnic are accredited".

"We have also put measures in place to renew the accreditation of some of the programmes whose accreditation validity will be expiring soon. We are also going to mount new programmes especially in engineering and the sciences.

Management has ensured that there is security and sustainable peace in the

Polytechnic so that students can concentrate on their studies without fear or danger of molestation. 

I want to resound it that this polytechnic is a no breeding ground for cultism. We have a robust and highly effective security apparatus that knows their onus. You cannot evade them", Onyegbu warned.

"There are many infrastructural projects that have been completed and many other ongoing projects all in the bid to create an enabling and conducive environment that will aid our students in attaining their full potentials," said Onyegbu.
