Recently, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo appointed and deployed permanent secretaries to oversee ministries and agencies in Anambra State.
Some of the permanent secretaries who spoke to journalists charged civil servants to prove themselves by being productive and efficient in their duties, emphasizing that recognition and rewards come through service.
Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Head of Service, Mr Adebayo Ojeyinka, who promised to put in everything it entails to ensure that the civil service would be more efficient, said that as a trainer and mentor, he would use his resources to impact others.
According to him, “being a permanent secretary gives me the opportunity to train and mentor those under me to ensure improved civil service. I will ensure transparency, efficiency, and better productivity in the service."
He advised civil servants to put all hands on deck, reminding them that recognition and compensation only come with diligent service. He thanked Governor Soludo for finding him worthy to serve, describing him as a national leader who has broken the barrier of tribalism to appoint him as a permanent secretary. He equally expressed gratitude to the Head of Service, Mrs. Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, for her courage and resilience, describing her as a wonderful woman, an achiever, and a mother.
Contributing, Mrs Nkiruka Mokwe (Esq), Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, urged civil servants to put in their best in the course of their duties to enable them to reach the apex of the civil service. She enjoined workers to always use every opportunity given to them to prove their worth irrespective of where they found themselves.
The legal practitioner, who was before her appointment as a permanent secretary, was the Administrator General in the state Ministry of Justice, reiterated her readiness to join the winning team to achieve Anambra which Governor Soludo aims at. She thanked Governor Soludo for finding her worthy to serve.
In another development, Mrs Nkiru Jessie Nwankwo (Esq), Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, while thanking God for granting her the grace to reach the peak of her career, promised to support Governor Soludo's policies in shaping a better civil service. She expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for choosing her to contribute her part to the development of Anambra State.
Mrs Nwankwo advised Anambra workers to remain civil and humble in their line of duties.
Also speaking, Mrs Chinwe Achugbu, now the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, enjoined workers to exhibit the spirit of unity and seriousness in duty.
Mrs Achugbu, the former Director in the Ministry of Science and Technology, appreciated the governor for finding her worthy and prayed for God's enabling grace to discharge her duties optimally. She advised workers to always do the right thing, avoiding all forms of truancy and laziness, as hard work pays.
On her own part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ifeoma Agbaizu, a former director in the same ministry, applauded Governor Soludo for appointing eight (8) women as permanent secretaries, saying that he has shown that he will carry everyone along in his administration irrespective of gender.
Reacting to the hardships facing everyone in society, she advised civil servants to live within the limit of their income, avoid living a false life, and trust in God.
Mrs Agbaizu thanked Governor Soludo for allowing God to use him to actualize her dream.
