A close associate of the family
said that the ace actor died on Saturday afternoon after he was moved to the
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital, Lekki a few days ago.
He died of cardiac arrest after
he had a relapse about a week ago and was rushed to the Lagos-based hospital.
Recall that the 62-year old had
battled health issues that led to the amputation of his two legs.
He was diagnosed with diseased
blood vessels.
His family had solicited funds
from Nigerians, saying the actor “had constant clotting of the blood in his leg
[diseased blood vessels] and other health challenges posing a risk to his life,
therefore the need for the amputation.”
Also, the President of the Actors
Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rolla, confirmed the actor’s death.
Last year, the actor underwent
surgery to remove one of his legs after soliciting help and prayers from fans.
The health challenges endured
by Mr Ibu, marked by surgeries leading to the amputation of his leg, eventually
led to his tragic demise. His withdrawal from the public eye in recent years
had fueled speculation about his well-being, with widespread rumors of
deteriorating health preceding his untimely death.
Aside from grappling with
health issues, Mr Ibu had previously made unsettling allegations about being
targeted by adversaries within his community. In 2019, he asserted that
domestic staff had been bribed to poison him out of envy for his successful
career. Additionally, in May 2022, he claimed to have been poisoned for the
third time, shedding light on the sinister motives of those intending to cause
him harm.
In an interview with Vanguard
Newspaper, Mr Ibu recounted the harrowing experiences he faced, detailing his
struggles against the odds with the assistance of medical professionals and
divine intervention. Despite encountering near-death situations and uncovering
malicious intentions from adversaries, he expressed gratitude for the second
chance at life bestowed upon him by God.
Reflecting on his illness, Mr
Ibu underscored the profound lessons learned and the unexpected blessings of
still being alive. His resilience in the face of adversity and unwavering faith
stand as a testament to his indomitable spirit, leaving an enduring legacy
within the Nigerian entertainment landscape.
As tributes pour in from fans
and colleagues, the passing of Mr Ibu creates a void in the hearts of many.
However, his iconic contributions to Nollywood will be forever cherished,
ensuring that his laughter and legacy resonate for generations to come.
