Punch Editorial March 1, 2024 titled: "Tinubu's promise on restructuring not enough", captured succinctly my prescient position and doubt or well-nigh impossibility for president Tinubu to embark on Restructuring the lopsided Federation to reinvent True fiscal federalism.
My argument was based on what the former Governor of
Kaduna state, El Rufai boasted that it was the Northern Moslems that helped
Tinubu to win the presidential election, and he has not recanted it.
Common sense dictates that such
"help" could not have been given without concrete 'covenant'; and
that covenant was that Tinubu should never contemplate and give heed to the
nationwide clarion calls for the Restructuring of the lopsided Federation
especially by the southern and middle belt people. Fact remains that the
Northern Moslems (the acclaimed "Fulani feudal oligarchy who believe that
they will be dictating how Nigeria should be), never hid their abhorrence for
the Restructuring of the country which goes with decentralized security
architecture because it would truncate the Islamization agenda. Nigeria people
from the southern part and middle belt don't want to believe this critical
observation.
Kudos for the Punch Editorial
Board for being consistent with strident advocacy on the categorical imperative
of Restructuring the lopsided Federation to reinvent True fiscal federalism
without which the country would be headed to the path of STONEY GOLGOTHA.
The incisive Editorial reads
inter alia:
"President Tinubu wants to
delay Restructuring till he has fixed the economy and social justice, fearing
that if there is no solid foundation for it, it will collapse. This is nebulous
and his fears are unfounded.
"... Indeed, it is a
mirage to think economic prosperity can occur in Nigeria without restructuring.
In other words, restructuring is the condition precedent for a buoyant economy
and socio-political justice".
Comment:
It is trite to say that in the
economy of acknowledging the omnipotent, Omniscient, and omnipresent God,
agreement is sacred and sacrosanct. In other words, God respects agreement even
the so-called "gentleman's agreement".
Any protagonist of Restructuring
the lopsided Federation who, having witnessed the monstrosity in the February
25, 2023 presidential election, and hope that Tinubu will listen to the clarion
calls for Restructuring governance with decentralized security architecture as
integral part, might be an incurable daydreamer.
In other words, even his veiled
appreciation of the need for state police, is sheer grandstanding if not
rhetorical posturing to reduce tension in the unrelenting slaughtering of
indigenous people by the Islamic invaders and territorial expansionists
masquerading as herdsmen, so called bandits and criminals cum serial kidnappers
with the security agents in BRAZEN-FACED presence of being incapable of
restraining them. How shameful for the military and police to say that bandits
and criminals invaded their barracks and carted away their accoutrements. Who
is fooling whom?
