Anambra State Truth, Justice, Peace Commission, (TJPC) Performed Yeoman Service

By Polycarp Onwubiko

The Anambra state Truth, Justice, Peace Commission (TJPC) submitted its final Report to Governor CC Soludo on March 6, 2024 at the EXCO Chamber, Government House, Awka. The Governor was full of joy for what would be described as “yeoman's service" (according to the great Zik), going by the apparently complex and gargantuan nature of the official assignment.

The clinical execution of the assignment hallmarked the high sense of responsibility, due diligence, resilience, grit, doggedness and perspicacity of the high profile members of the historic Commission. No wonder the highly elated Governor Soludo described the Chairman of the TJPC, Professor Chidi Odinkalu as "Professor of Professors" having admired his erudition (preliminary speech) before he and the secretary of the Commission, Her Excellency, Mrs Bianca Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu presented the historic Report to him.

Soludo brimming with smiles while making effusive commendation for the job well done, remarked that "the reward of good work is more works". Soludo equally acknowledged and appreciated the Secretary of TJPC, Her Excellency, Mrs Bianca Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and lacked words to commend the rest of the members for a job well done.

Soludo who highly cherished the TJPC Report having read the first preliminary Report and the final one expressed belief that the Report could serve as a national framework to frontally address the pervasive and intractable insecurity throughout the country even as he specifically recommended it to the States in the Southeast Geopolitical zone since the investigation on nagging problem of insecurity and disgusting stories of mindless killings for land acquisition covered the five states.

The Governor was apparently shocked when Prof Odinkalu while speaking before presenting the Report, revealed that the trigger of mindless and senseless killings by the youths especially in Anambra state was a ferocious and vicious quest for land speculation and ensuing tussles for land acquisition. He therefore expressed his preparedness of the State Government to liaise with the town Union's presidents general and traditional rulers to find pragmatic panacea to the sore issue. My joy knew no bounds having the privilege to work at the fringes of the Commission's complex and gargantuan task which has expanded my horizon.
