Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial District, has deemed the House of Representatives rerun polls in Anambra State on February 3 as a pivotal test for the upcoming 2025 Governorship elections.
Ubah, who recently declared his intention to vie for the governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeled the rerun polls in Orumba and Nnewi areas as a significant demonstration to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, asserting his position as a "Street General."
Remaining in his residence in Nnewi during the rerun polls, Ubah emphasized that despite his physical absence, he utilized his influence and strategies to secure victories in the two House of Representatives seats for his former party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP). According to Ubah, this serves as a litmus test for the 2025 Governorship election.
Reflecting on his achievements, Ubah highlighted the deployment of seven Commissioners and other Government officials by the state government to Nnewi in support of APGA during the election. Despite these efforts, Ubah asserted that attempts to intimidate were unsuccessful, underscoring the control he exercises over Nnewi and Anambra South Senatorial District.
Having previously won the Anambra South Senatorial District elections in 2019 and 2023 under the YPP banner, Ubah expressed confidence in securing the Governorship ticket of his new party, the APC, in 2025. He envisioned leveraging his substantial business acumen to elevate Anambra State to a position of pride.
The rerun polls saw victories for the YPP candidates. In the Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo federal constituency, YPP's Peter Uzokwe garnered 25,518 votes, surpassing APGA's Uche Elodimuo with 25,412 votes. Similarly, in the Orumba North/South Constituency, YPP's Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife secured 14,496 votes, defeating PDP's Okwudili Ezenwankwo who polled 13,087 votes.
Ubah expressed gratitude to security agencies for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the rerun polls. If given the APC Governorship ticket in 2025, he asserted his capability to secure victory and elevate Anambra State within the country, leveraging his extensive business experience.
